About the Department

Welcome to our department of History. We introduce our department with you very briefly.

Faculties

We have four faculty members. They are –

  4. Mr. Debabrata Ghosh.

Vision of the department

  • The Department of History aims to make the students aware of the past and its rich cultural values in Indian history in the context of world history, through teaching and discussion activities.
  • The critical understanding of the past will raise awareness  among the students and will help them to create a better future.
  • Along with teaching and learning department aims to create consciousness among students to protect our  national and world heritages by conducting locally, statewide  or national level educational tours.

Facilities of the department

  • The department has a Departmental cubicle  with an internetenabled computer .
  • The teachers can use the free WiFi facility of the college for educational purposes.
  • The department has around 100 reference books as departmental resources.
  •  Annual seminar / workshop arranged by department.
  •  Department organizes study tours, publish student Emagazines etc.
  • The department still has further ambitious plans, a part of which is already in the progress of actualization. 

 

Teaching procedure

  • Lecture method The conventional teaching method is called  Chalk and Talk method.
  • Discussion method Interactive Sessions.
  • Use of Teaching Aids – White Board, Charts, microphones etc.
  • Use of ICT PowerPoint Presentations,Smartboard, Smartphone, Learning Management System(LMS) etc.
  • Arrangement of educational tours to historically important places.
  • Wall magazine/EMagazine ( Itibritto) Wall/E magazine writings increase the creative thinking & historical values of our students.

Other activities

The students of the department participate in different college programs like seminars, Youth  Parliament Program, debate competition, awareness programs, as the volunteer of the college NSS unit, social activities like Blood Donation Camps etc. 

  The faculty of History Dept. also actively take part in  different programs like convening the Youth parliament program, celebration of National importance day, Career counseling programs, Educational tours etc.

Strength of the department

  • Effective Teaching Learning methods.
  • Strong bonding between Students and Teachers.
  • Students come to their teachers easily with their educational or personal problems. Teachers give them valuable suggestions and help them.
  • The Department has some books as departmental resources.
  • The department organizes seminars and workshops for betterment of the students.

 

Weakness of the department

 

  • Total number of students in General course is enormous but number of faculty members is insufficient.
  • Teaching learning equipments are not sufficient.
  • Number of books in the Department as resources needs to be increased.

    Instead of all these obstacles, the faculty of History Department tries best to overcome them.

Challenges

  • Faculty strength is to be increased.
  •  Funding is required for purchasing more equipments and reference books as the departmental resources.
  •  Enrollment in history honours program is a challenge to the department as most of the students are unaware about the career scope.
  • Future plato collect more reference books & teaching materials.
  • To organize educational tours every year .
  • To organize more seminars and workshops.
  • .Increase student teacher guardian interactions.
  •  To run the Faculty exchange programs,which will enrich  our students.
  • To make professional and academic tieups with various institutions and organizations like Indian History Congress, Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad etc.

  • Students gain knowledge about Indian and world history over ancient, medieval and modern periods.
  • Students develop critical thinking over different historical theories and arguments.
  • Develop analytical and scholastic insight to conduct Ph.D. or historical research projects.
  • Students understands only by knowing the past we can make our present and future world a better place to live in.
  • After studying history over semester I to VI students of history honours & general can go for higher studies at various Universities.
  • Students can also opt for job market. They can get employed at various Government and Private sector jobs.
