From the Desk of The TIC
Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya has come a long way from the start it had a quarter of a century ago. These twenty five years have seen more ups than downs and as a result the Institution has been able to impart quality education to the students of the adjacent areas as well as far flung regions. The Institution made its start in an adjacent school building and now has a three storeyed building of its own, most of which has been through the contribution of the students.
On the educational front the college began its journey under the University of Calcutta, but like all other colleges of the district was shifted to newly formed West Bengal State University, Barasat through an act passed by the Government. UGC affiliation came as late as 2016 after the parent University got its 12B status. There are 10 Honours (Major) subjects along with 13 General (Minor) subjects. Though scope of study of Science subjects is not to the desired extent, yet the institution provides offbeat subjects like Physical Education, Music and Journalism and Mass Communications besides the standard subjects.
The Institution has a strength of around 50 teachers and requisite number of non teaching staff to cater to the needs of the students. Personal care is taken through mentoring programme where the mentors connect with the students and their family for taking personalised care. Welfare schemes – both offered by the Government as well as the college – are extended to the students so that they can take utmost benefit of those. Various committees are also in place to help students in any sort of discomfort in the institution, but luckily no major complaint has been registered as yet. The students’ representatives play an important role in bringing the demands of the students to the knowledge of the administration and looks into their ready resolving.
The Institution has received various accolades like becoming champion in District Youth Parliament Programme besides being champion in various games and sports over the years. The students have won various awards individually and collectively over the last two decades pointing to the fact that the students are nurtured in a holistic way. Though our college is much young compared to others, yet some of our alumni are well established in various prisms of life.
The College has been accredited by NAAC and in getting ready to re-accredit itself in near future. I thank all the stakeholders of the institution, both present and past – students, guardians, ex-students, teachers, non-teaching staff and the Governing Body in making Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya a success. Let’s make a pledge to take institution and the region further forward in the next twenty five years.
