Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya

Introduction

Sanskrit honours course has been introduced in Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya in the year 2016. However Sanskrit as a subject was introduced way back in the year 2014, when it was taught as part of the General Course.

The interactive sessions are organised between teachers and students.  The Teachers encourage the students to participate in different seminars and cultural competitions. The teachers also arrange personalised guidance for weaker students. Class tests are arranged by the department to evaluate the performance of the students. There is a faculty of six enthusiastic teachers who are always ready to serve for the betterment of the students. Our department is capable of taking 25 students in the Honours Course.

As a mother of many languages, Sanskrit is given high priority by our ancestors and modern thinkers. Many job opportunities are there for Sanskrit students like teachers recruited by CSC, Ssc and other lucrative government jobs. The teachers of the Sanskrit Department are always careful about the progress of their students.

Course Outcome

Sanskrit is the mother of all languages, one of the 23 official languages of India and known as a classical language of Indian subcontinent belongs to the Indic group of language family of Indo-European and its descendents (Indo-Iranian & Indo Aryan). Sanskrit literature forms an oldest stage for millions of years. The Sanskrit language has a wonderful structure and is more perfect than other languages. Over thousands of years, many scholars have contributed to Sanskrit literature. Sanskrit is written in the Devanagari (literally means “cities of the gods”) and Brahmi based scripts Sage Panini’s Sanskrit grammer called Ashtadhyayi produced around 4th century B.C gives the details of how the language works and forms the basis for modern Sanskrit grammars. Sanskrit language has an extremely rich complex grammatical structure and an enormous vocabulary.

The academic programme, both Honours and General courses enable the students not only to acquire the following professional skills but also develop a deep understanding of rich heritage and dynamic prevalent scenario of India through various texts in different disciplines of ancient pedagogy, composed in Sanskrit. A student pursuing this course has

• Advanced knowledge of ancient Indian philosophy, literature and history.
• Command over Devanagari script, which provide them the paleographical knowledge to read out the script of modern languages like Hindi and Marathi.
• Practice of textual analysis of Sanskrit and Vedic Sanskrit texts endowed him/her to develop a critical perspective to assess existing research through careful reading, analysis and discussion.
• The ability to apply relevant theoretical perspectives in Sanskrit philosophical and literary works to contemporary topics and also to develop a scientific approach towards analysis of modern texts.

Scope:

• After completion of graduation eligible students can pursue post graduation level like M.A., M.Phil.
• Students can appear at different competitive exam like NET, SET.
• Students can join B.Ed, M.Ed courses.
